The U.S. Treasury Department removed 84 individuals and entities from its SDN (Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons) list in the second round of its initiative to simplify the sanctions list.
In the same action, 22 entries were updated with additional identifiers, and 18 records that appeared duplicates on different lists were merged.
The first round of the initiative took place in May 2026, and 76 records were deleted. Thus, the total number of records removed from the list in the first seven months of the year reached 160.
The Treasury’s framework is noteworthy: the nature of the list is considered as important as its growth; reducing unnecessary complexity for compliance teams is presented as an element that strengthens, not weakens, the effectiveness of sanctions.
